Cemetery Neglect
By Lincoln County

ISSUE

Neglect of cemetery maintenance agreement by Lincoln county.

POSITION

Seek compliance.

In Lincoln county in 2000 the Vardeman, Stephenson, Holmes cemetery was removed to make way for construction of the new Cedar Creek Reservoir & Recreation Park. An archeological survey was conduct by the University of Kentucky on remains found in the old cemetery dating back to 1790. The cemetery was reinstalled and remains re-interred. An agreement for maintenance of the cemetery was signed by Lincoln county judge-executive Ron W. "Buckwheat" Gilbert with the related families. Lincoln county has failed to maintain the cemetery since.

Concerned Members seek the compliance of Lincoln county in maintaining the cemetery.

Since its resolution, the matter was brought to Lincoln county’s attention, and maintenance by the county has resumed.
