State funding for cemetery restoration

POSITION

Adopted the position to promote availability & awareness

A bill expected to be presented to the Kentucky state legislature in 2006 provides for state funding for cemetery restoration. Many historic cemeteries fall into neglect, or become obliterated entirely, simply because families die and no one is left to attend to them. Families returning to ancestral cemeteries may discover them in such states of disrepair for so long that extraordinary cost is required to restore the cemetery.

Concerned Members have adopted the position to promote awareness of the availability of such programs should the measure be passed by the state legislature.
