As candidates for election to the Executive Committee of the Kentucky Historical Society, 2007, we offer the following platform:
WE SUPPORT making the KHS Library more patron friendly through the hiring of helpful, competant, & knowledgeable staff,
& by utilizing the library to its maximum potential.
WE SUPPORT a higher emphasis on obtaining research materials & rare collections, in addition to monetary contributions
to the KHS for both the museum & the library.
WE SUPPORT improving membership in the KHS by offering & providing inspired speakers, & by raising awareness of
our rich and colorful heritage locally throughout the Commonwealth. Looking to the future, we want to improve the program
introducing genealogy & family history, & their related educational tools for school children, with the goal of increasing
membership in the Junior Historical Society & thereby insuring the continuing viability of the KHS for the future.
WE SUPPORT partnerships between the KHS with other departments in State government, to provide & promote the importance
of Kentucky history in its relationships with commerce & tourism.
WE SUPPORT conformity by the KHS with all legal guidelines & lawful requirements. Employment practices must be strictly
obeyed & monitored at all levels of hiring. This includes job postings in newspapers covering our entire Commonwealth,
so that more of our Kentucky residents would have access to job opportunities. Positions must never be filled arbitrarily
based upon partisan political considerations. Open records policies must conform to the law & be welcomed as an opportunity
to improve the KHS & its services. The organization of the KHS must be transparent, accessible, and work to the benefit
of all!
If elected, we are willing and ready to serve.
