ISSUE
Firing of Ron Bryant as research librarian at the Kentucky History Center
POSITION
Oppose & seek reinstatement
Ron Bryant is a highly respected historian, second in Kentucky only to Thomas D. Clark. For years he served Kentucky as
research librarian at the Kentucky History Center. He has won numerous awards, and is always in demand as a speaker for those
with an interest in Kentucky history.
In the reorganization of Kentucky government by Gov. Ernie Fletcher in 2004, Ron Bryant was removed from his position for
no cause. In response to the public outcry, the State rehired Ron Bryant to write a book on the Kentucky State parks
system, effectively removing him from those who would benefit from his valuable knowledge and assistance at the Kentucky History
Center.
The removal of Ron Bryant deprives historians, researchers, and the public of a knowledgeable resource, a much sought-after
speaker, and a worthy advocate for the Kentucky Historical Society. His absence has resulted in decreased public donations,
and decreased memberships.
Concerned Members seek the reinstatement of Ron Bryant as research librarian at the Kentucky History Center.
